Types of Rice

Rice is nice! As a dinner vegetable, a friendly base for foods you cream, a pudding for dessert. And Rice is the mainstay food for millions of people on the face of the earth. Mounded and fluffy, each grain whole, separate and tender. That is how Rice should and could be if you prepare it properly. Resist the extra stir or just one peek; and when stirring or fluffing, always use a fork to avoid crushing the grains. Avoid over cooking; it produces a mush. Do not buy just one kind of rice. Enjoy them all!

Regular Rice: The hull and bran have been removed by polishing. Short grain rice is less expensive than long grain; it is used for casseroles, puddings and creamy desserts. Long grain rice is a better all purpose rice and cooks fluffier, flakier and drier; it is used for curries, Chinese dishes and as a vegetable.

Processed (Converted) Rice: This type contains the vitamins found in the husk of brown rice but is polished like white rice. It can be substituted for regular rice, but the cooking time is longer.

Precooked (Instant Rice): Commercially cooked, rinsed and dried. It is good as part of a main dish and quick to fix at any time.

Brown Rice: A vitamin rich whole grain, with only the outer hull removed. It has a nutty flavor and is used as a side dish.

Wild Rice: Long grained and dark greenish brown in color. And not really rice but the seed of an aquatic grass. Expensive, it is often sold combined with brown rice.

A Bratz Slumber Birthday Party

Ask any 6-12-year-old girl to what do the names Jasmin, Sasha, Jade, and Cloe refer, and you will undoubtedly get the same answer: Bratz. Bratz are a set of dolls with attitude. For many years Barbie has controlled the doll market; that was until Bratz entered the market. MGA Entertainment, the makers of the Bratz doll line, designed the hip doll line. The dolls have extreme features (full lips, large head, small body), wear hip clothes, and modern hairstyles. As with many toys that take the world by storm, Bratz have expanded beyond being just dolls.

The Bratz are presently featured in movies, video games, and television shows. Bratz was originally four girls. Bratz Boyz, Bratz Kidz, and Bratz Babyz are now also available. Despite some criticism from some parents and interest groups, Bratz continue to be incredibly popular. If there is a young girl in your life celebrating a birthday soon, there is a good chance that she's tugging at your coat tails for you to throw her a Bratz party. A fun idea for a young girl's birthday party is a Bratz slumber party. The only thing that must be present at a Bratz slumber party is the Bratz. Each young girl can bring her own Bratz doll. Before the party, the girls can go shopping for new clothes for their Bratz dolls. If the girls are particularly close, they may opt to exchange clothes instead of buying new ones.

Since the Bratz slumber party is a late night event, light snacks, such as popcorn are recommended. Preparing the snacks can be an activity for the party girls. Fun snacks to make for a Bratz slumber party include Rice Krispie treats, cookies, popcorn balls, and smoothies. Slumber parties are perfect for watching movies. A Bratz party is the perfect opportunity to watch a Bratz movie or play Bratz video games. In addition to the dolls, the girls should also bring Bratz sleepwear.

Happy Father's Day Gifts

Image : http://www.flickr.com

My father is a great man and always loved gifts from the heart more than expensive gifts. If you have a great dad you want to give something special to here are some ideas.

I make soap and bath products so I made my dad a gift basket with some soap and bath oils in it. He likes the Oregon coast so I put scents like Ocean Breeze, China Rain and a cologne scent that he liked called Draakar. He has some arthritis in his back and knees so I made him a bath or massage oil with ingredients like lavender oil, olive oil and some other healing oils to relax the nerves in his joints. Lavender is also very calming so it helps with insomnia which my dad also has. You can also buy some soap and bath products along with picture frames, popcorn, etc to make your own gift basket for dad.

Homemade cookies is another thing my dad always loves. No bakes are easy and yummy. Here is a recipe Boil 2 c sugar, 1/2 c milk, 1 stick butter and 1/2 c cocoa over medium heat for 1 minute. Remove from heat and stir in 3 c quick oats, 1/2 c peanut butter and 1 tsp vanilla. Mix together and drop onto wax paper on cookie sheet. Let set for 1/2 an hour or so until firm. I forgot the sugar last time I made these and had to throw them out. They looked good but you need the sugar!

Rice Krispie Treats are another yummy easy treat. There are several good recipes online. I don't have mine with me now but they are really good. I went to Disneyland a couple of weeks ago and had a star shaped one with frosting. It was good but I would have made mine a little sweeter. The next time I make these I will use frosting. Canned or homemade frosting works well. You can use cookie cutters or a knife to make shapes like hearts or stars.

A self-portrait on a paper plate is another cute idea. I had the kids in Sunday school do this and they loved it. You can write I love you Dad on it or write the child's name on the back. You can draw everything on or get more creative. Use construction paper or yarn for hair, googly eyes and red yarn for mouth. The kid's faces were really cute. This is a craft for 3 and up. Little ones might want to eat the other stuff. Glue sticks work great for gluing things but if you use glitter you'll want to use something like Elmer's glue.

Father's Day cards are always nice. You can fold a square piece of construction paper and let the child write or draw something in it. You can use card stock too and get creative. Write I love you or make your own poem such as I have a cool Dad The best Dad that could ever be had And I'm so very glad That you are my Dad.

Make Yourself 100 Calorie Snacks at Home

If you are especially concerned about the amount of calories you are consuming everyday there are low calorie choices that can take the stress out of finding a fitting snack. Though many of these will not actually replace a well cooked meal they are the perfect treat when no other options are available or when you simply do not have the time to invest in something more substantial. Remember that even though many of these are low calorie snacks do not mistake them for healthy foods which will contain more or actual nutrients.

Tasty Treats

The 100 Calorie Little Debbie marshmallow treat is almost identical to the well known Rice Krispie Treat except that it is cheaper. It is a bit sweeter and perhaps a bit too gummy however, if you are on a budget then it is the perfect treat. This will give you a instant boost when you are on the go, however it may not necessarily give you a full feeling.

You can try Jello's collection of 100 calorie puddings which come in many flavours. They are very delicious and are all fat free. The flavours include vanilla/chocolate combo pack, chocolate-vanilla swirl, tapioca and devil's food. To make it even more flavourful you can add some fat free cool whip. You can find them at most supermarkets and quite often at discount stores.

100 calorie Sierra Mist

If you would like a drink instead of actual food then this 8-ounce can of soda is perfect. It has 100 calories and fairly convenient to take with you. It's not actually cheaper than the 12 ounce version of the drink but at least you'll be cutting down on your calorie intake. It's important that you remember it is soda so try to not to rely too heavily on it as an in between filler.

Klondike Slim-a-Bear

Klondike Slim-a-Bear bar is a great tasting treat. It is coated in chocolate and caramel with delicious vanilla in the middle. The ice cream is slow-melting which means you'll have a lot of time to enjoy this snack without worrying that it will completely melt before you are finished. The low calorie ice cream filling coupled with its small size guarantees you won't be consuming too many calories. However, try not to eat more than one bar which will dampen any attempt at reducing your caloric intake.

Healthier Snacks

Mott's Original Apple Sauce

This is a healthier snack that tastes fantastic. It won't give you the same amount of fibre but it is still considered a full serving of apple.

Earthbound Farm Organic Mini Peeled Carrots with Ranch Dip

This is fundamentally a serving of vegetables and a bit of dip.

Stonyfield Farm Light yogurt

These are high in protein and fiber, and will provide you with 1/4 of your calcium needs.

FrozFruit Gourmet Frozen Fruit Bar

Is a great snack that is high in Vitamin A and C.

Cracker Barrel 2% Milk Cheddar Cheese Sticks

Though it has slightly high fat content it is rich in protein calcium and other nutrients.

Lizzie McGuire Party Menu Full of Yummy Treat

Lizzie McGuire and her cartoon alter ego sure do end up in a lot of trouble and some interesting situations on her television show. While the series isn't creating anymore new episodes the fans are still devoted and new Lizzie fans are discovering the reruns everyday! They even look forward to the movie! Your Lizzie McGuire party menu can feature some Lizzie friendly foods and foods that are healthy for your kids and their guests as well.

Other than the obvious health advantages of ground turkey with its lower saturated fat there is also less expense in this recipe. Many groceries sell ground turkey at a lower pRice point than beef but even when this isn't the case less is lost to shrinking during cooking. Another way to stretch the budget is to use finely powdered bread crumbs for about one fourth of the burger mix. This will give the burgers a better texture as turkey can be a bit chewy. Adding a teaspoon of beef bullion or a few cubes will fool the palette and add salt as well. Season lightly with Worchester, garlic powder and a little pepper. Fry to well done and serve on onion or sesame buns. Be sure to offer platters of lettuce, onion, tomato and pickle chips. The usual condiments for your burgers and bowls of potato chips with favorite dips complete this menu.

You can make this into a BBQ menu and grill the turkey burgers outside during the warmer months. It gives them a great smoky flavor. You'll also need lots of paper goods for outside or inside, since burgers tend to get a little messy. If you are using cans or bottles get everyone involved in some recycling after their meals. Last but certainly not least have a great Lizzie McGuire party.

\\ I ' m S orry //

Warning: Shonen-ai and spoilers. I like parts and other parts I think I was really lazy with but, oh well. I had fun making this. Even though it isn't anything special. And, I was jus wonderin'... can anybody please tell me where to get better quality clips?? I mean, they are good quality until I get my paws on them. Then they decide, "Oh! Casey is using us! Unhighqualitize nao!"... Yes, they do say that ;D *is high off of too many Rice Krispie Treats* Here is the somewhat story of the video (and the anime): Sora Hashiba, (guy with the blue hair) lost his memory after 'falling' out of a window. He meets a guy, Sunao Fujimori, (guy with pink hair) whom he has met before but has no memories of. For some reason, Fujimori seems to bear a resentment towards Hashiba although they were supposedly best friends. Fujimori then decides to confront Hashiba. After speaking to Fujimori, he begins to have flashbacks of their childhood and of the pain the two went through after they had been kidnapped by a doctor. Hashiba apologizes for any pain he caused during that time to him and begs him not to leave him ever again. Then Fujimori has flashbacks of recent times Hashiba had been kind to him although during this time, he was pushing Hashiba away. Fujimori then apologizes to Hashiba for any harm he caused him recently and Hashiba tells him he will always be there for him. Now, slightly into the future, Hashiba is confronted by the doctor again and must face his memories and fears in ...

Snack Time at Walt Disney World

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Snacks at Walt Disney World are a nice taste treat for some and an obsession for others. Here are some of my favorites:

Magic Kingdom

Aloha Isle (Adventureland)

Dole Whip is the claim to fame at Aloha Isle, and I'll guarantee you'll love this soft-serve pineapple frozen treat. You can even order it in a Coke or root beer float. I do warn you - it's addictive!

Main Street Bake Shop (Main Street)

It's difficult to ignore this sweet shop on Main Street loaded with all kinds of goodies the likes of Snickers cheesecake, giant bear claws, huge hot cinnamon rolls oozing with frosting, giant-size Rice Krispie treats, lovely fruit tarts, and much, much more. Stop in just to stare.

Sleepy Hollow (Liberty Square)

The long lines attest to the goodness of the funnel cakes here. There's also caramel corn, ice cream cookie sandwiches, and luscious root beer floats.

Sunshine Tree Terrace (Adventureland)

Running a close second to Dole Whip is a Citrus Swirl, soft serve vanilla ice cream twisted with frozen orange juice. Although there's much debate about which is best, try both to get in on the action.

Epcot

Boulangerie Patisserie (France)

Don't worry about missing this place - just look for the long line snaking outside into the street. Crowds flock here for the huge assortment of French pastries such as chocolate éclairs, peach tarts, coconut pyramids (my favorite), napoleons, chocolate mousse, chocolate croissants - the list goes on. Find a table on the cobblestone sidestreet and watch the "World" go by.

Crepes des Chefs de France (France)

This kiosk in France makes delicious, hot crepes right in front of your eyes with your choice of filling: chocolate, sugar, or strawberry. Order a cappuccino to sip along with it.

Kringla Bakeri og Café (Norway)

For what it's worth, my favorite snack is to be found here. I can never resist picking up one of the soft, chewy, sweet pretzels topped with icing and sliced almonds. Combine one with a Viking Coffee spiked with Baileys Irish Cream.

Sommerfest (Germany)

Order up a nice bratwurst roll topped with sauerkraut accompanied by German beer. Or go for a dessert of yummy apple strudel topped with lovely vanilla sauce.

Sunshine Seasons Terrace (The Land - Future World)
One popular snack are the Nestle Toll House Cookies baked fresh here throughout the day.

Disney Hollywood Studios

Min and Bill's Dockside Diner

The pretzels are quite good with your choice of cheese or apple cinnamon stuffing. And their yummy, thick shakes are always a winner.

Animal Kingdom

Kusafiri Coffee Shop and Bakery (Africa)

The giant cinnamon rolls dripping with icing are big favorites.

Pizzafari (Discovery Island)

For a quick snack pick up a hot basket of pizza dough breadsticks topped with cheese served up with a side of marinara.

Disney Resorts
Beaches and Cream (Disney's Beach Club Resort)

Lots of choices here at this 50s-style soda shop. My all-time favorite is the old-fashioned malts with the extras served on the side in the stainless steel mixing cup. If you want to go all out order the Kitchen Sink with piles of ice cream (literally served in a miniature kitchen sink) smothered in every topping available.

Captain Cook's (Disney's Polynesian Resort)

Don't forget the famous Dole Whip found at the Magic Kingdom is also served here.

The Mara (Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge)

Two popular items from the resort's Boma restaurant can be found at this counter-service spot - Zebra domes, a delicious amarula (a South African cream liqueur) mousse with chocolate ganache stripes, and paw print brownies, a chocolate brownie with a cocoa lion cub paw print in the icing.

Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory (Disney's Port Orleans French Quarter Resort)
I'm obsessed with the beignets here - the best I've had outside of New Orleans.

Spoodles Pizza Window (Disney's Boardwalk)

The tasty pizza served at Spoodles Restaurant can be had at this walk-up window just outside. Pick up a slice and catch the Boardwalk's fun atmosphere while you chow down.

Downtown Disney

Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop (Marketplace)
Try Earthquake, an extravaganza of eight scoops of ice cream, eight toppings, bananas, whipped cream, almonds, and cherries. The warm brownie sundae runs a close second.

Goofy's Pantry (Marketplace)

A great assortment of homemade cookies and other sweets. On cold nights the cookies taste terrific with a cup of hot chocolate.

Wetzel's Pretzels (West Side)

It's tough to resist a trip to Wetzel's Pretzels. Favorite's include the jalapeno cheese melt and the pepperoni twist pretzels. I even like the non-fat original without salt. Non-pretzel lovers can opt for a scoop of Haagen Daz ice cream.

How To Find Healthy Dinner Recipes

When I'm looking for information about something I just type the word or phrase into Google and I can usually find what I'm looking for in the first couple of pages of results. When I typed in "Healthy Dinner Recipes" I was overwhelmed. There were lots of results of course, so I clicked on the first one and got a list of dishes:

Appetizers, Beverages, Breakfast, Candies & Treats, Entrées, Healthy Cookies, Cakes & Bakes ....Wraps, Sandwiches & Burgers.

The word 'dinner' doesn't even appear, and on checking out some of the meals, they didn't even appear that healthy to me. The next site I tried was actually better, although I had to scan a lot of recipes to find something that appealed to me.

Criteria for a healthy recipe

If you're like me, time is precious so I have to find what I need fairly quickly. Unfortunately when it comes to finding ideas for healthy dinner recipes you still have to do a lot of looking. I try to scan the recipe and screen out ones that don't meet my basic criteria for a healthy dinner meal. Here are the things I look for when selecting a suitable dinner recipe:

- a generous portion of mixed vegetables

- a source of protein such as lean meat, fish or beans

- a source of carbohydrates like potatoes or brown Rice.

Whole wheat bread, whole grain Rice and whole-wheat pasta are healthier choices than the white varieties. A green salad always makes a healthy choice.

If you are a vegetarian it's much easier to find a healthy recipe. The thing to look for though is an adequate source of protein. Soybeans are a good alternative to meat but should be consumed in moderation. The Harvard School of Public health has a good article on protein on their web page. (http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/protein.html).

Other Sources

So, where else can you find healthy food recipes? Another good online source is Amazon.com. If you search on the keyword 'healthy dinner recipes' you will find a lot of books listed, (of course this isn't going to help you get dinner ready this evening!). The only thing to be aware of is that a lot of these books are focused around weight loss diets, which are not necessarily good for you in the long run. Nevertheless Amazon is a good source of information.

If you have children it's especially difficult to find recipes that are nutritious and appeal to them. This problem is worse if you are trying to change the eating habits of the family. The CDC website (http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/nutrition/nutrition_for_everyone/quick_tips/healthy_children.htm) has some good information about preparing healthy dinners for children.

Conclusion

In conclusion, there is a ton of information out there but trying to zero in on the best healthy dinner recipes for you and your family is going to take time. You also have to be prepared to make a lot of changes until you find something that works for everyone. I used to joke about our kids' reaction to some of my dishes (Lima bean soup comes to mind) - if they don't like it, it must be good for you!

Seriously though, there are lots of good healthy dinner recipes available that everyone will love. You just need to be able to spend the time to find them, and experiment a little in the kitchen.

Healthy Food Choices For Fast Effective Weight Loss

Everyone should be eating healthy every day, but it can be difficult to do on a regular basis. In order to eat healthy you need to make the right food choices, what you eat directly affects your body. Making the right food choices are crucial for fast effective weight loss results.

Here is an overview of what foods you should be adding to your diet each day. Try to aim for lots of colors on your plate each day.

Whole Grains - You should eat around 6 ounces of grains each day. This includes whole grain breads, pastas and Rice.

Vegetables - Five to six servings a day is recommended in the form of dark vegetable such as broccoli, brussel sprouts and spinach. Carrots and sweet potatoes are excellent choices along with beans either dried or canned, if using beans from a can rinse well to remove any excess salt.

Fruits - Try to eat fresh fruit when possible as the whole fruit has more vitamins and minerals compared to drinking fruit juices. Fruit juices tend to have more sugar so be careful on the amount that you consume. Limit bananas to one per day and grapes are great to have especially when frozen. They make a good sweet treat.

Milk - Go for skim or 1% milk when possible, around 2 servings a day is good and helps older woman with preventing osteoporosis. Low fat yogurt can be substituted if you are not fond of drinking milk. Broccoli is another great source of calcium.

Proteins - Eat 4 ounces a day of any red meats, 6 ounces of chicken or turkey and allow yourself up to 8 ounces of fresh fish per day. Always try to bake or grill your meat and trim off any excess fat.

When cooking try to limit the amount of fat or oil you add to your cooking pans. Just by cutting back to half of what you are currently using is going to provide a big health benefit. Olive oil is the better choice and is great for adding flavors to your meals.

If your diet is currently not that healthy you will experience fast effective weight loss just by adding these foods to your daily eating routine. Along with drinking plenty of water and adding some form of daily exercise even if it is walking the dog or going for a bike ride.

There are no quick pills for fast effective weight loss, a common sense approach and plan is all that is required to achieve a healthy lifestyle, which is only going to benefit your health in the long run.

Recipes For Easy and Delicious Frozen Pies

Frozen pies are always a great treat. But as we head into Spring and Summer, these delicious cold pies become even more of a hit. Here are a couple of great recipes that are easy to make, taste delicious, and make a lovely presentation to impress your family and/or guests. Try either Toffee Bar Crunch Pie or Granny's Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Pie. Oh why not just try them both!

TOFFEE BAR CRUNCH PIE

1/3 cup caramel dessert topping
1 1/2 cups cold milk
1 pkg (4-serving size) Vanilla flavor instant pudding and pie filling
1 tub (8-oz) frozen whipped topping, thawed
6 bars (1.4-oz each) chocolate-covered English toffee, chopped
1 Graham Cracker Pie Crust

Spread the dessert topping on bottom of the graham cracker crust. Pour milk into a large bowl and add pudding mix. Beat mixture with a wire whisk for 2 minutes. Let stand for 5 minutes. Stir in the whipped topping and chopped toffee bars. Spoon mixture into the crust. Freeze for 4 hours or until set. Let stand at room temperature for 15 minutes before cutting. Store any leftover pie in the freezer.

GRANNY'S CHOCOLATE CHIP ICE CREAM PIE
Note: This pie needs to freeze approximately one hour before serving!

1/2 cup chocolate syrup
1/3 cup semisweet chocolate morsels
2 cups crispy Rice cereal
1/4 cup sour cream
1 quart chocolate chip ice cream, softened

Lightly spray the bottom of sides of a 9-inch pie plate with butter-flavored nonstick cooking spray; set aside.

In a small microwave-safe bowl combine the chocolate syrup with the chocolate chips. Microwave on high about 45 seconds or until hot. Stir until all the chips have melted and the mixture is smooth. Reserve 1/4 cup of the mixture.

In a medium bowl combine the remaining chocolate mixture with the crispy Rice cereal and mix well to coat all the cereal with chocolate. Press the mixture onto the bottom and sides of the pie plate to form a crust. Put in the freezer until the crust is firm. This should take about 15 minutes. Allow ice cream to soften during this time.

In a small bowl combine the reserved chocolate mixture and the sour cream; mix well.

Spread half of the ice cream in the prepared pie shell. Drizzle half the sour cream mixture over the ice cream in the crust. Top with the remaining half of the ice cream and drizzle with the remaining sour cream mixture. Cover and freeze for about an hour or until firm.

Enjoy!

Healthy Treats vs. Table Scraps for Your Pet

Are you a treat giving pet owner or do you give more of the table scrap brand of love? This is the time when this question is the most relevant. Guests are visiting and feeding our pets plenty of table scraps. Actually, the majority of us sneak a morsel or two to our pets during meals and though there is nothing really wrong with this, we want to be cautious about starting the wrong kind of trends.

For example, when you reward begging with table scraps, expect to start seeing those same yearning eyes night after night from then on. It is quite hard to "untrain" pets from expecting such a treat. And who can actually blame them? Do you want a dog that sings the "No Food Blues" at your feet and a cat that uses the meal table as a trampoline every night? Here are a few more reasons why you might just want to reconsider table scrap giving:

Table scraps can be the gateway to weight issues. Our pets often end up with the fat from our plates that we did not want.

Scraps do not necessarily offer the same level of nutrition that quality treats may provide. Much of table scraps are in fact empty calories.

Table scraps are a major cause of digestive disorders. The richness and/or fattiness of our foods can sometimes harm your animal's digestive tract.

Mary Shelley created a monster, you may have create a thief. If a pet is used to getting food from the table, do not be surprised if you catch him or her eating the leftover turkey that you left on the kitchen table. A head in the garbage can is not all that uncommon either.

You may also create a picky eater. If you get your pet too used to human type food, he or she may not even want to eat their own food.

But if you must give your pet table scraps,

try to remember that they should be used as treats and not the main course.
The best scraps are probably: meat (without the bones), cooked or even raw vegetables, cooked grains, eggs and brown Rice. Let us not forget dairy products. You know that cats in particular adore milk. Luckily lactose intolerance is usually not found in pets.

But try to avoid these particular ones: Chocolate, fatty meats, stuffing with raisins, raw eggs when baking (cats really like them), cooked and raw bones (much too dangerous).

Feeling Anxious? Consider Vitamin B-Complex Supplements

Sometimes you might get really anxious and you think it is normal. Think again. Common symptoms like pounding heart, shallow breathing and feeling like losing control, have sent many people to the emergency room. People who suffer with anxiety often tend to think that they are the only people in the world are experiencing symptoms of anxiety. And the facts will surprise everybody. Nearly 20 million people are diagnosed with an anxiety disorder. This number only includes those people who have actually sought help.

There are probably millions more, who neglect to seek help. Anxiety is normally treated with medication. Though studies have shown that medication helps most people, the common side effect is that the medication causes an increase in anxiety. Taking B-complex supplements may be a substitute to drug for treating anxiety.

We all know that the human body needs vitamins. So, it is comprehensible that the lack of vitamins can result in health problems. Researchers have revealed a cause and effect rapport between vitamin B deficiency and anxiety. Stress is a normal part of everybody's life.

The stress in the body is managed by the adrenal gland. The sufficient amount of B-complex vitamins in the body helps to keep the adrenal gland functioning properly. If you develop a vitamin B deficiency, the adrenal gland will stop functioning properly and results in your body experiencing continuous episodes of stress. It is the effect of this scenario that a person becomes susceptible to anxiety.

Since B-complex vitamins are water soluble, it is important that you obtain enough quantities regularly. The vitamins that make up B-complex include thiamine (B1), riboflavin, niacin (B3), pyridoxine (B6), folic acid (B9), cyanocobalamin (B12), biotin, and pantothenic acid. Sufficient quantities of B vitamins can be gained by consuming liver, whole grains, Rice, nuts, leafy green vegetables, and eggs. People can sought to these natural sources if they are not experiencing a significant amount of stress.

But people who suffer from anxiety disorder may need more than what they can obtain from food. To treat anxiety, it may be essential for an individual to take up to 100 milligrams of a B-complex vitamin.

Still higher doses are recommended to people who are diagnosed with chronic forms of anxiety. B-complex vitamins are generally safe, but may not be suitable for everyone. It is very important that you not self-diagnose your symptoms. But you should always consult your doctor and analyze your symptoms to determine your individual needs.

ShayLoss - Day 36 - Weigh In & Love

February 2010. I surprised myself last night. Out of all the things I have, such as ice cream, rice krispie treats, coca, etc...I just wanted a banana so badly! And my husband took me out to get just that! I had some bananas here at home already but they are very unripe. Also, on our honeymoon when we went to see "The One" show, when my husband ordered the tickets over the phone he was asked if he wanted our marriage mentioned in the show. It was a big surprise for me when they announced congrats to us in the beginning of their show! :o) Weight Watchers scale www.coupons.com ShayLoss http

How Does Your Amish Family Celebrate Christmas?

Image : http://www.flickr.com

We were taught that Christmas is Jesus's Birthday and that day is to be celebrated as such. However, in our actions to me it was just another Sunday. Many Christmas's as a young child we never had company or went visiting on Christmas. We spend the day at home like any other in-between (since the Amish only have church every two weeks we had in-between Sundays) Sunday. My mother would read (silently) the bible or the Budget (Amish newspaper) and we usually played games. The only present we sometimes got was one board game for the whole family.

One year when I was in 3rd grade I think we got a Monopoly game so then we played that all day. My Father loved Monopoly and he was able to win most of the time. Other board games we had were Aggrivation, Chinese Checker, The Game of Life, and Upwords. The only card game we were allowed to play was Old Maid, Go Fish, and Uno. Many Amish do play cards for a pass time but my parents did not like playing cards. In our young folks group we played Rook quite a lot.

For the most part I know that many families got together on Christmas and exchanged gifts but we lived far away from any immediate family and my grandparents had all passed so we never had any place to go on the Holidays. The only other difference from everyday life is that my sisters and I would make some special treats (recipes that were too expensive in everyday life) like: Rice krispie bars, chocolate covered pretzels and coconut bon bons. I also remember baking extra pies and breads so we could give some to the neighbors. I really enjoyed that because I knew the neighbors loved my baking.

In school we celebrated Christmas a little different. We colored Christmas pictures to hang in the windows or on the wall, we made paper chains to hang from corner to corner with a colored bell in the middle. I don't know why decorating was allowed in school but not at home. However, I also know that the extent of the decorating at school depended on who the teacher was. Sometimes the parents would complain on how much decorating was done at school.

At school we also exchanged names for gifts. The gifts were supposed to be fairly inexpensive because like my family, at one point there were 7 children going to school. A couple of days prior to Christmas we had our program. For that day we invited all the parents who brought food for the potluck. Once everyone got to school then we performed our program which consisted of singing Christmas songs and reciting poems. Then lunch was served and after that one of the dad's would play Santa (no costume) and hand out all the gifts to the students. When everyone had opened their gifts the children would go home with their parents and Christmas vacation began and lasted until the 2nd day after when normal school would resume.

I hope this helps you to understand how the Amish celebrated Christmas.
