How to Behave When You Come Face to Face With a Shark!

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Want to explore the 'Big Blue' and enjoy swimming with sharks on your dive? Bahamas and Caribbean beaches are the perfect places to achieve this goal, but you don't want to go just wading in! That could make for the perfect opening credits for Jaws 4! You need to first know some shark etiquette for visiting their briny home - or you may find yourself in an underwater faux pas and with a very angry shark host on your hands!

Research

It is only good manners to know a little bit about one's host before you go to their party. On a dive, Bahamas sharks can be quite particular about who they mix with, so it is also useful to know who, and what, to avoid. Before you head off, make sure you research the area of your intended experience. Wherever you go diving, you need to understand the types of sharks that you are likely to encounter, and also a bit about their particular behaviours. Each shark has its own characteristics, so you need to know which sharks are anti- and which ones take a more lax view of human intruders.

Best Behaviour

Please remember that you are a guest beneath the waves and the shark is the host on your dive in the Bahamas. Use those manners you learned from your mother when visiting Aunty Violet - no chasing the host and attempting to extract teeth for souvenirs, or trying to capture the beast and take its body home for shark soup. That really is the height of bad manners and not in the spirit of peaceful coexistence at all!

Watch the Other Natives

Keep an eye on the other marine creatures swimming about their business in the waters below when you are on a dive. Bahamas visitors will soon learn The Bahamian and Caribbean seas are full of a wide variety of underwater life, all of which are 'of' the ocean and, therefore, in tune with the ocean and all who live in it. If they suddenly dive for cover, chances are that something is going to happen in the waters around you - respect the more knowledgeable natives and never assume you know better than they!

No Dithering

You need to learn about the feeding habits of sharks when you go diving in their habitat. There is plenty of marine life that congregates just below the surface - such as sea lions, seals and defenceless injured fish - these lovely treats happen to be the shark's favourite food and it wouldn't pay to get mistaken for one of these delicacies on your dive. Bahamas sharks can be quite insistent when they've settled upon a meal, and don't often take no for an answer; so when diving, aim for the seabed immediately and stay still - sharp movements will put the shark on its guard!

Never Gatecrash

It is never a good idea to simply gatecrash a party on your own when you dive. Bahamas residents will be happy to tell you it is far better etiquette to go with a friend of the host, or someone who knows the rules. If you are new to shark diving, then go on a guided tour, with an expert to help you negotiate the proper way to behave in a shark's home. This is a safer option for all concerned and means you won't upset your shark host to the point where he finds it necessary to try and evict you - or worse!

Of course, although there is an element of truth in all we say, it is mostly tongue in cheek. If you dive with a professional company, listen to your instructors and be respectful of the ocean and all its creatures, your dive with sharks will be completely safe and become one of the most cherished and memorable experiences of your life.

How to Make Sushi

If you want to make sushi, you should know that there are more varieties to sushi than the ordinary fusion of raw fish and Rice. A Japanese staple that has earned the favor of the rest of the world, sushi is now considered to be one of the most popular Asian dishes. Sushi has evolved into more than a culinary treat but an enduring art form, after it has originated in the Muromachi period when fish and Rice were first fermented together.

Some Truths About Sushi

Making sushi can be done in several ways, whether rolled in nori sheets, stuffed inside tofu pouches, or even scattered over vinegared rice. All these make sushi a versatile dish that can be eaten anytime during the day. Contrary to popular notion, sushi does not refer to the raw fish or raw seafood itself. Sushi is actually the vinegared rice that is served together with the raw or cooked seafood, and then dipped in sauces before eating.

It is important to note however, that fish and other seafood used in making sushi can either be raw or cooked. Although the traditional means of serving sushi involves placing a slice of raw fish on top of a bed of vinegared rice and then tying these with a band of nori, the contemporary ways of serving this Oriental staple have embraced the use of non-traditional ingredients like cucumber, mayonnaise and wasabi sauces and even mango strips.

The Basics of Sushi Making

If you want to make sushi, consider first if you would rather eat raw seafood or not. You can always use other substitutes such as boiled crab meat, squid, shrimp, fish roe, and even sea urchin.

Making nigiri sushi is very simple, and you only need seasoned or vinegared rice as the base, a slice of raw or cooked fish or any other seafood, and wasabi sauce. Sushi rice can be prepared ahead of time, and this can be done by boiling short grained rice and water in equal proportions until the rice is cooked. You can then add a tablespoon of sushi vinegar per cup of rice.

In order to make sushi of the nigiri variety, start by shaping a small mound of sushi rice through your hands. Use about two tablespoons of rice and roll them into a well-shaped oval. Flatten the top of the mound and spread wasabi paste on the surface. If you don't fancy wasabi however, you can omit this step. Finally, you can place the thin slice of raw fish or shrimp on top, usually about 2x5 cm in size. To secure the sushi, cut a strip of nori and wrap the thin band around the rice and fish.

Maki sushi is a roll of nori, sushi and fillings which are cut into medium sizes. Temaki sushi involves shaping the nori into a cone and stuffing it with rice and fillings. Chirashi sushi is just scattered sushi, with toppings of vegetables and sashimi spread over the sushi rice. You can also make sushi without using the nori but tofu pouches instead. This is called the inari sushi.

Important Sushi Tips

When you use raw fish or seafood, remember to choose the freshest ones available. Sushi masters typically prefer to use deep saltwater fish types like salmon and tuna since they are normally free from parasites. Fresh water fish are more prone to parasites, thus placing you at risk for infection and diseases.

There are several health issues confronting the consumption of sushi on a regular basis and one of these is the alarming levels of mercury present in raw fish and other seafood. However, you can always choose to have the fish cooked or to enjoy other fillings as well. Fish is an excellent source of omega 3 fatty acids and is a better alternative to most red meats. When you make sushi, always remember that you can enjoy this exotic treat in more delicious ways than one.

How to Make Your Own Version of the Famous Rice Krispies Treats

You can always go out and buy Rice Krispies Treats, but why do that when you can make them at home? Out of Rice Krispies cereal you say? Don't worry! You can make it with any kind of cereal you have at home. It will obviously taste different, but at least you'll be proud to say that you made it by yourself. Learn how to make your own style of the Rice krispies treat.

The ingredients that you will need are: any kind of cereal you have at home, butter, and marshmallows.

First you're going to figure out what kind of cereals you're going to use. Choose whatever you want, but see if the combination goes well together first. You can add as many as you want as well, but I suggest sticking to about 3 or 4 different cereals at max. Having too many flavors at once will make your mouth confused.

After you have figured out what cereal you're going to use, it's time to start putting together your delicious treat. Take a microwave safe container and add some butter and your marshmallows. Stick it in the microwave and heat it for about 25 seconds. If everything isn't fully melted yet, do it for another ten seconds and so on.

Once everything is melted, add your cereal. Add in handfuls at a time and keep mixing the batch so that everything is evenly spread out. You have to work fast, as the marshmallows are going to harden up really quickly. If you can't do it quickly enough, you should probably work with small batches to get the hang of it.

After you've mixed in all the cereal, let it sit for about 30 minutes so that when you cut it, it doesn't break apart. Now, you can simply cut and serve to guests or just delight in it by yourself!

5 Things to Pack When Camping For a Fitness Enthusiast!

Camping is something that we all do in the summertime. It's fun to be out in the wild with other people that enjoy the same thing. There's nothing like spending time beside a campfire, roasting marsh mellows and catching fish. It's also one of the most difficult times for homeostasis for fitness enthusiasts.

Five things you need to remember to bring.

1- Protein bars. Nothing prevents atrophy like protein does. When your body fails to meet its demand for protein - amino acids are the first thing to go! You can prevent this by supplying your body with a few protein bars before the most demanding activities. And guess what? They don't take up very much room at all. And, on top of that, you can bring them with you by putting them in your pockets. Doesn't take time to cook, they're cheap, and you can bring plenty of them.

2- Lean meats. Protein bars are fine when you're out walking and getting ready to do something and need the energy, but if you're setting beside the campfire and getting ready to sleep, then you need a complete balanced meal. Lean meats like turkey, cans of tuna (which would of course require a can opener) and maybe some chicken would be an excellent way to way before you go to sleep.

3- Water. This is often something that is actually neglected. People far too often think that water is supplied through the river and is not needed to take with you; this is a very wrong assumption. Water is purified when you buy it from the store; furthermore, the water from the woods could easily be contaminated if you don't know what to look for. I suggest bringing at least 3-5 bottles per person for each day you're in the woods. After all, you burn significant more energy and water in the forest.

4- Olive oil. Easy to carry, lots of healthy fat for energy. And it is very easy to add into your water bottle. There's nothing wrong with drinking it all while you're taking a hike! Olive oil can also elevate HDL, which is what testosterone is made from, keeping your anabolic.

5- Rice crispy treats. Did I just say Rice crispy treats? Yep! Sure, they have some sugar in them, but you're burning so much fuel in the wild that it's almost required to eat dirty. Rice crispy treats are tasty and they have loads of complex carbs. Besides, they're cheap, affordable, and can easily be packed!

puppy basin cake_0001.wmv

A video of my daughter's birthday cake being put together: Like the Snoopy for last year's cake, the puppy was sculpted out of rice krispies treats by hand. The dog dish, however. was made using a bowl as a mould. White chocolate covers the rice krispies bowl, and a blend of milk and dark chocolate was used to cover the puppy. (Regretfully, I had technical difficulties with my camera and could not photograph the chocolate coating of the puppy.) The cake and frosting are Betty Crocker products. Multigrain Cheerios were poured into the bowl before putting in the puppy. Note: The inspiration for the puppy was my younger daughter's Webkinz black Lab Sparky, and is made from one batch of rice krispies treats. The bowl is made from three batches of rice krispies treats, and consequently, is quite heavy. The super moist Betty Crocker cake could not handle this weight, so that is why I decided to support it with an inverted cake pan instead. Note on the music: The track is a portion of a piece called Isla Del Sol by a very talented artist named Guido Luciani. This is one of nine tracks of a cd called "Azucar the Magic of Spanish Guitar". I bought it on a whim at the gift shop check out of our local zoo. I absolutely love this collection of music and would highly recommend it to anyone that likes Spanish style music.

Information on Red Yeast Rice Complications

High cholesterol is a serious condition that affects individuals from all walks of life. There are many different treatments available in the form of medications or supplements. One of the more popular ones is supplement made from Rice. This article will take a look at the possible complications associated with red yeast Rice. It will examine the dangers in taking this supplement and what individuals should be aware of.

Red Yeast Rice is a very powerful supplement that is often used to treat and reduce high cholesterol. This supplement is created by fermenting Rice with a specific strain of yeast. This fermentation gives the rice its red color and also creates a naturally occurring product call lovastatin. Lovastatin comes from the drug class statins which are used extensively in cholesterol lowering medication.

What are the Complications?

Because the supplement is so powerful, there is the possibility of serious side effects and complications occurring. Below are just 3 of the different complications that could possibly occur from taking this supplement.

People are often unaware that the supplement that they are taking contains a statin. The same statin found in cholesterol lowering medications are also found in red yeast rice. As a result, it is possible to have the same side effects. Individuals who have had problems with statins in the past should avoid red yeast rice supplements.
Serious side effects such as liver damage can occur from taking the supplement along with other medication. This complication from the supplement is based on the fact that the effects of the medication can be increased drastically and this is where liver damage can occur.
Some people take red yeast rice with other supplements, medications and vitamins. This can cause problems due to the fact that there might be an adverse reaction from combining the two of them.

To read about more red yeast rice complications, please visit the website listed below.

How To Treat Dog Vomiting

A very common problem that virtually all of us see as dog owners is dog vomiting.

There are potentially many different causes of dog vomiting. The most common cause is garbage gut, where your dog consumes something he shouldn't have, resulting in vomiting. Other causes include food allergies, parasites, medications, infectious causes (i.e. parvovirus), cancer, liver or kidney disease, pancreatitis, metabolic disorders (thyroid disease or diabetes), physical obstructions such as a ball or a bone, and primary motility disorders (the stomach doesn't contract normally).

Any vomiting dog must be evaluated for dehydration. If your dog is vomiting persistently and unable to retain even water, wait no longer than 24 hours before going to your veterinarian. This indicates a severe problem, such as an obstruction, that needs to be treated with IV fluids and possibly surgery. If your dog is still consuming water and occasionally vomiting, then you can try some of the home remedies.

Fasting. A 24 hour fast is the most important thing you can do to allow your pet's inflamed stomach to heal. Allow access to controlled amounts of water, but no food. After 24 hours offer bland food such as plain cooked white Rice; give equivalent amounts of Rice as you do dog or cat food. After 48 hours mix their regular food with rice and don't fully go to regular food until after 72 hours.

For Food Allergens. For dogs and cats with chronic vomiting, I strongly recommend a diet change. Preferably switch to a hypoallergenic food or homemade allergy diet. At the very least, change to a premium quality food - I find that some pets respond to a more natural diet. In light of the recent Pet Food Recall, paying close your dog's diet is even more important than ever.

Homeopathic. Nux Vomica is an effective homeopathic remedy for dog vomiting. Give 1 tablet of the 30C strength per 40lbs once daily for 3-5 days.

Herbal - Ginger. A tasty addition for a curry is also effective for vomiting. The dried herb dose is 25mg per lb or 1 drop per lb twice daily of the tincture.

Acupressure Point. The ST36 point, located on the outside of the hind leg below the knee may be effective; press it for 1 minute twice daily for 3-5 days to see if it helps.

Flowers to the Rescue: Bach Rescue Remedy can make your pet feel a little better about their illness. Give your pet 3-4 drops by mouth every 6 hours.

Herbal - Chamomile. This is commonly used in people with mild stomach upset and it may help your pet. Give 30mg per lb of the dried herb, or 2 drops per lb of the tincture three times daily.

The treatments I covered may be all that you need for now. But I guarantee that you will use many of the thousands of at home remedies in my book.

I use them every day in practice. They work. No side effects.

You should try it.

To your pet's good health,

Dr. Andrew Jones

Candy Molds

Candy molds are typically made out of clear plastic or rubber, and in some cases they are made out of metal. The material used to make a candy mold depends on the type of candy they are meant to be used for. They also come in an enormous variety of shapes and sizes.

Here are just a few of the shapes that candy molds come in:

-Thanksgiving: Horn of Plenty, Corn Cob, Turkey, Pilgrims, Pumpkin

-Graduation: Girl Grad, Boy Grad, Cap and Diploma, Congratulations Lollipop

-Halloween: Jack-o-lantern, Frankenstein, Ghost, Moon, Spider, Skeleton, Black Cat, Witch

-Anniversary Candy Molds: Congratulations Bar, Congratulations Lollipop

-Christmas: Christmas Tree, Santa, Poinsettia, Snowman, Toy Soldier, Reindeer, Star

-St. Patrick's Day: Four Leaf Clover, Leprechaun, Shamrock, Irish Hat

-New Baby: Rattle, Baby Feet, It's a Girl, It's a Boy, Baby Bottle, Diapers, Stork

And we are just barely scratching the surface when it comes to the number of different shapes and designs that candy molds are available in. Plus, with the different colors of ingredients that can be used to make molded candies there is no limit to the ways your candy can be designed and personalized.

You can also use candy molds for making many other specialties other than just making candy. Candy molds are great for making ice cubes or sugar cubes for a special event. They are great for making cream cheese treats, Rice crispie treats, holiday mints or jello jigglers for special occasions. Some people even use candy molds to make decorations out of plaster. As you can see the only limit is your imagination when it comes to using candy molds.

Various candy molds are designed for different uses and they are made from different materials depending on that use. The materials used are typically plastic, rubber or metal. Many candy molds are designed to make molded chocolates so they don't have to be very heat resistant; while others are designed for making hard candy and suckers, so they are made of material that can withstand high heat so that the hot candy can be poured right into the mold.

Now, lets say you want to make candy for a wedding or to celebrate your child's sports team. By using different colored dipping chocolate or other different candy making ingredients you can come up with candies personalized to the color schemes of the wedding or the sporting teams uniforms.

Other good uses for the molds that tolerate heat is using them to make cookies or little cakes or even for making your own decorative soaps. The list goes on and on as to the ways in which candy molds can be used to make treats and decoration to personalize a special event.

Here are just a few more ideas for using candy molds: Gum Paste, Cement, Modeling Clays, Candles, Fondant, Sidewalk Chalk, Cinnamon, Play dough, etc. When it comes to working with candy molds you can let your imagination wander.

Just Great, My Dog Has Worms, Now What?

It can be a devastating and disgusting diagnosis when a Veterinarian tells you that your dog has Worms. Even worse, you may actually see the Worms coming out of your dog or in their stool, if they have Roundworms or Tapeworms. Trust me when I say that that can be a nearly traumatic experience. Also disturbing, some of these Worms can even be transmitted from your dog to you, which is called zoonosis. These include Roundworms and Hookworms, so you should take extra precautions and follow your veterinarians advice to the letter, if you dog has one of these parasites.

Each type of wormy parasite requires a different treatment or medication, and will display different symptoms. Every dog owner should at least have a working knowledge about the warning signs of a Worm infestation and the treatments involved. Here are the five types of Worms that may infect your dog.

Roundworms - There are two types of Roundworms and they are the most common Worm infestation in dogs. The symptoms of Roundworms include: pot-belly appearance, diarrhea, vomiting, dull coat and weight loss. You may even see this type of Worm in your dogs vomit or feces. They look like pieces of spaghetti up to 6 inches long or longer. This type of Worm is usually treated with oral medication, with follow-up fecal screenings. This is one of the types of Worms that can be transferred to humans, but good hygiene will usually eliminate this threat.

Hookworms - Hookworms can not be seen with the naked eye, so they are usually diagnosed by your Vet with a test. The symptoms of Hookworms include: bloody stool, anemia, weight loss, pale gums, diarrhea and low energy level. This parasite is usually treated with oral medication, follow-up fecal screenings, and in the worst case, a blood transfusion. This is the other type of Worm that can be transmitted to humans. Good hygiene and cleaning up after your infected dog can prevent a human infection.

Tapeworms - Common Tapeworm symptoms include abdominal pain, nervousness, severe itching around the anus, vomiting and weight loss. You may also see this Worm in your dogs feces. The broken sections, which may still be moving, will give the dogs stool a Rice like appearance. Tapeworms must usually be treated with a prescription oral or injection dewormer medication. Over-the-counter dewormer medication is usually not strong enough to clear this kind of Worm infestation.

Whipworms - This Worm can not be seen by the naked eye, and must be diagnosed through testing. Symptoms of a Whipworm infestation include anemia, weight loss, flatulence, diarrhea with blood or mucus in the stool and lack of energy. These Worms can be difficult to treat with over-the-counter medication, but there are very effective prescription treatments.

Heartworms - Although easily preventable, untreated Heartworm infections are potential fatal. The symptoms usually do not show up until the last stage of the disease, and include pot-belly, coughing, lack of energy and dull coat. Because symptoms do not appear until its too late, it is best to use a over-the-counter preventative medication to stop these Worms before they endanger your pets health.

Having a Wormy dog can be an unpleasant experience, but in almost all cases there is an effective treatment available to help your favorite dog live a healthy and Worm free life.

Protein Hair Conditioner - Rebuild Strength and Restore Shine!

Our hair is about protein amino acid that has built-powered. A protein conditioner helps to rebuild protein bonds to the hair stronger and more flexible for topical infusion of nutrients and proteins.

A protein conditioner offers a cure for the follicle lining with silk, Rice and maize proteins to protect and evil. It contributes to the strengthening of proteins and amino acids for bonds beautiful, straight hair, while the moisture that penetrates deeply necessary for healthyfollicle, root growth and reducing frizz and split-ends..

Silk proteins and natural herbal extracts are used to rehydrate hair that has lost moisture due to heat damage or chemicals, and differing molecular weights from corn and Rice proteins are used to treat dryness, weakness and heal damage. Multiple proteins sources mean proteins and amino acids penetrate deeper than most moisturizing conditioners and rebuild damaged follicles while improving silkiness and luster.

Damaged or broken hair is often the result of lack of inadequate moisture in the follicle shaft or cuticle, insufficient nutrients delivered to the root or follicle bulb, or from heat, excessive product use or over-styling. A protein hair conditioner rebuilds proteins so that hair will grow naturally and help protect against sun and wind damage.

The most commonly used topical proteins used in hair products are Rice and corn. Corn has a midrange molecular weight and is excellent for adding shine and making hair feel smoother. Rice protein, with lower molecular weight, more easily penetrates the shaft to rebuild and strengthen damaged hair.

To supplement benefits as a conditioner, protein conditioners are often formulated with amino acids and vitamins to provide nutrition for healthy growth and structure. Botanical extracts can be combined to enhance and enrich revitalizing breaking or stressed hair. And it is common for antioxidants and sunscreen protection to be added to further protect the strengthening abilities of the topical proteins.

A protein hair conditioner is a perfect compliment to any hair care regimen. Specially formulated to rebuild protein bonds, it is "designed" to add strength and moisture. If you suffer from damaged hair, split-ends or have chronically dry hair, periodic use of a protein hair conditioner can reduce breaking, infuse moisture and deep condition.

Common types of biscuits

Everyone loves homemade cookies. Nothing is more inviting than the scent of freshly baked cookies or their view of cooling on the counter. It 's my favorite kind of aromatherapy.

Cookies have a long history, dating back to the seventh century, Persia. Since 1800 began brownie recipes appear in cookbooks such as "cookies." In fact does the term "cookie" from Koek Koekjes Dutch word and means little cake.

Recipes for cookies in a variety of styles and flavorswas built in 1900 and continues today. The cookies are baked treat the most common household kitchens and it is estimated that more than half of all the chocolate brownies are homemade chips.

But there are many other types of cookies waiting outside to cook. Most cookbooks classify them by how they were formed in the following categories or types of cookies:

Bar cookies, squares, or Pan Cookies
To make the type easier and faster than cookies. Batter or dough ishold or spread in a pan and cut into bite-sized pieces after baking. Brownies are the classic example of a cookie batter-type bar, but come in a variety of styles and flavors.

Drop Cookies
By far the most common form of homemade biscuits by dropping or banging cookie dough from a teaspoon or a tablespoon prepared pan created. Mix together, drop, bake and enjoy - definitely a simple kind of cookie. Some examples include drop cookies, oatmeal raisin, peanutButter and chocolate.

No bake cookies
Another simple no bake cookie does not require an oven. They are a great way for children who made fun of cookies to deliver. Some of my favorite recipes without cookies bake Rice krispie bars, balls date coconut, rum balls, bars and peanut butter.

Ice box or refrigerator cookies
Originally done as a "cookie Ice Box" of hard cheese that is usually cooled and formed into a cylinder underBefore slicing and baking. contemporary cookbooks can categorize refrigerator cookies sliced or cut into slices and bake. You can cut a log of cookie dough in the refrigerator or freezer, then into slices, cook and enjoy a warm, freshly baked, homemade cookies, a cookie request strikes.

Shaped cookies
These cookies are shaped by hand or with tools or extruded from a cookie press or pastry bag. Shortbread is a classic example of a cookie shaped like a hand. There are also manyof the popular tourist destination "spray" cookies that must press a special cookie.

Regardless of which type of cookie to make friends and family are sure to applaud your efforts.

Telluride Real Estate - It's Not About Money

Far from the bling bling of Aspen, the rustic mining town of Telluride, Colorado, is surrounded by majestic snow capped peaks, dramatic waterfalls, and sunsets of pink, turquoise, orange and blue. Sure you will find charming Victorian homes with all of the modern conveniences, condos on the river, and log mansions on the mountain, but the beauty, recreation, and sense of community inspires a reality check every day of your life in this enchanted town. And, of course, investing in Telluride real estate will increase your bottom line, but it's not about money and it's not for everyone. Those who will gain the most from their investment are those that seek a greater reward, those that appreciate life and living.

It's amazing how quickly priorities skew and values change. Whether you own Telluride real estate or just visit, the incredible natural beauty of the area seems to keep one's life in perspective with a daily consciousness of nature and universe. Living in a postcard is life in Telluride. The spectacular, 14,000 foot peaks, mountains swathed in golden aspens during the fall, roaming elk herds numbering in the hundreds are a few of many sources of personal motivation and creative inspiration. Looking at mountains instead of buildings provides a continuous connection with nature. Beautiful and extreme changes in weather keep nature a consideration and priority. Breathtaking geography and coexistence with deer, elk, beaver, bears, and coyotes are constant reminders of our participation in life and responsibility as caretakers of our environment. But most of all the dangers of geography, weather, and wildlife also bring a consciousness of death and a sense of personal responsibility that gives one the greatest appreciation for living.

Beyond just a place to live, owning Telluride real estate is also an opportunity to exercise mind and body as you enjoy 300 days of sunshine each year. Telluride, Colorado, offers unlimited activities, opportunities, challenges, and new experiences keeping one physically healthy and mentally happy. While Telluride residents and visitors will find access to skiing and snowboarding within a few feet of their front door, they can also hike a short distance to the sources of rivers, bike across the valley floor, or enjoy an outdoor summer music festival. And throughout the area they will find fly fishing mountain streams and lakes, camping at the edge of a 1000 foot cliff, soaking in natural hot springs, and horseback riding across a sunny mesa. Other recreation includes snowmobiling, rollerblading, mountain biking, touring ghost towns, sleigh rides, rock and ice climbing, hunting, golfing, ice skating, rafting, kayaking, snowshoeing, ice fishing, 4 wheeling, and Telluride is home to many musicians and artists.

Whether Telluride's 2000 residents arrived with a certain inner peace and appreciation for life or gain their insight by becoming a part of the community, it is apparent in those you meet on the street or encounter on the river trail. Buying Telluride real estate is joining an exclusive society where people say hello, rally to help a fellow resident in need, and genuinely care more about your happiness than the car you drive. Six by 12 blocks in size, walking is the main mode of transportation and socialization. Telluride also provides free bus transportation and a free 2 mile gondola ride to neighboring Mountain Village and the ski area. Although Telluride has an airport, the town is not easy to get to, and for this reason most everyone in Telluride wants to be in Telluride.

The residents of Telluride are a close, supportive group that operates below the radar to host tens of thousands of guests every year. As a visitor, resident or owner of Telluride real estate in this resort community, you also enjoy a number of benefits not found in most small towns, such as, quality dining, a festive atmosphere with nighttime activities and parties, as well as, a range of upscale personal services. But, the tolerant and non-judgmental attitude where every voice makes a difference is Telluride's greatest distinction from many other small towns. The bank tellers keep treats for your puppy, and the post office serves hot chocolate and Rice krispie treats while you wait in line during the Christmas rush. The giving and kindness of the locals is infectious and the single most valuable asset included with each real estate property sale. Telluride is not cheap, but it's not about money. Telluride real estate is a lifestyle inspired by nature, fueled by healthy activity and preserved by the genuine spirit of the people.

Frugal Easter Basket Ideas

If you look forward to giving Easter baskets to your children each year but don't enjoy the high pRice of expensive pre-made baskets, here are some simple ideas for saving money on this fun holiday tradition. Like anything else you buy, it helps to set a spending limit - maybe $5 per Easter basket. Then have fun being creative and trying to keep within your basket budget.

Our family usually reserves Easter baskets and Easter Egg Hunts for the Saturday just before Easter - saving Sunday for church and family celebrations.

I try to shop for Easter basket fillers in advance (I use the same principle for Christmas stocking stuffers, too). You can keep a basket in the corner of a closet for storing these types of items found throughout the year. Keep an eye out for small games and toys in clearance bins at the grocery store, at dollar stores, and during any stops to thrift stores or yard sales.

In the days immediately following Halloween, bags of candy often go on sale for half pRice (or less), so I'll sometimes purchase several bags of family favorites and stick them in the freezer. Frozen candy will keep quite nicely until Easter.

Small, fun items that you'll probably need to purchase for your children during the course of the year can be saved to include in their Easter baskets: crayons, felt pens, glue stick, glitter glue, novelty toothbrushes, fun-flavored toothpastes, hair ribbons, barrettes, a new hair brush, bubble bath in fun containers.

Ideas for the Basket Itself:

Wicker baskets can be reused year after year (a nice tradition in itself). These can be used other times during the year for decoration or for storing small items. You can also reuse the decorative grass from year to year.

Paper bags decorated with bunnies, eggs, flowers, etc.

Easter bonnets. If you're going to be purchasing an Easter bonnet for your daughter, turn it upside down and fill with goodies.

Inexpensive colorful plastic sand pails. Include a shovel and sand mold.

Plastic mesh storage containers. Reuse to store toys, games, socks, childhood treasures, etc.

Lunch box.

New novelty pillowcase.

Flower pot (fill w/packet of seeds, soil, drainage rocks, gardening gloves, instructions for growing their own Spring flowers).

For older kids/teens, try a make-up container (including sample sizes of soap, perfume, lipgloss, nail polish, etc.), a fishing tackle box (include a few lures), a personal popcorn bowl (containing a bag of gourmet popcorn), or a new purse.

For teen-agers or grown children, try a grocery bag filled with their favorite foods.

Filling ideas:

Plastic eggs can be reused every year. Fill with jelly beans or small plastic toys of interest to the child. Bags full of fake bugs, dinosaurs, etc., can often be found at dollar stores for under a $1 per bag.

Homemade candy and treats.

Homemade frosted Easter-shaped cookies individually wrapped. You can also make cookie lollipops by adding a lollipop or ice cream stick before baking.

Crispy Rice Treats or Popcorn Balls colored with pastel food coloring and shaped like eggs.

Sidewalk Chalk Eggs: Mix 1 cup plaster, 1/2 cup water and several drops food coloring. Pour mixture into empty egg carton sections. When dry, peel away the carton and hot glue two sections together at the center to form a complete egg.

Toys from fast food children's meals can be found in "like new" condition at thrift stores and yard sales for $0.25 or less.

Rubber stamps and stamp pads.

Homemade play dough.

Crayons.

Small bag of potato chips.

Bubbles.

A jumprope.

Jacks.

A frisbee.

Chopsticks.

Fancy shoelaces.

Stickers.

Books.

Stationary, note cards, envelopes, stamps.

Coloring books or coloring sheets. Find some simple Easter related clip-art and print the picture out in black and white for homemade coloring sheets, or print out several and staple them together for a custom made coloring book.

Audio tapes you've made of yourself reading their favorite books aloud. Be sure to include a signal for them to turn the page if they'll be reading along with you.

Look for small Dover Books at your local bookstore. These books are high quality and usually under $1 each. They have paper dolls, holiday activity books, coloring books, etc.

Happy Spring!

What's For Dinner? 30-Minute Menus for 2010 - 34th Edition

This is the 34th edition of the weekly 30-minute menus for 2010. These are published on a weekly basis; I like to develop the weekly menus on Thursday or Friday, grocery shop on Saturday, and start the week's menus on Sunday.

Happy Labor Day to all! Can you believe that summer is over? I hope you have enjoyed every minute of your summer - mine was great.

My family is visiting for the Labor Day weekend. They began arriving on Friday evening so everyone is here for our dinners on Sunday and Monday. Sunday's dinner of Chicken Veronique is so easy and a family favorite; you can have a great meal and still have time to spend with your family. I will serve a Deli Delight appetizer course consisting of: Sliced Swiss, Cheddar and Provolone with Apple Cranberry Chutney; Sliced Ham, Beef, Turkey with Horseradish Mustard; Cherry Tomatoes, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Baby Carrots with Vindaloo Curry Sauce; Roasted Garlic Crackers and Mini Toasts; Golden Roasted Gourmet Peanuts. (Note: I will use the leftover Vindaloo sauce with the Mushroom Fritters on Friday).

I just love the Cincinnati Chili for a Crowd menu for the Labor Day celebration. You may even have a chili competition if you have a folks that like chili to make chili their way. This menu works well for eating at home, in the backyard, or porting to your picnic. Just put your chili in a crockpot and you are all set for good, family fun for all!

You will find that I use several cooking methods, mix and match, to get dinner on the table quickly! (The ingredients in parenthesis show some of my quick-prep steps.) You can always substitute your favorite made-from-scratch recipes when you have more time.

I hope you have a great week!

Halloween Dessert Recipes Are High in Sugar Content - Good Or Bad?

Halloween dessert recipes are an essential component to fall festivities. While many are gathering up all of the essential ingredients to create their spookynite snacks, many will be purchasing sugar in order to mix in to give the desserts a sweet taste. Unfortunately, many people who will be purchasing this ingredient simply do not know or understand that there are dangers associated with this substance.

Here, I will be exploring the dangers of sugar in Halloween dessert recipes. If you have a sweet tooth, or you are concerned about your health and the health of those that will be consuming these Halloween treats, it is important that you pay special attention to the contents of this article.

When an individual consumes the sugar in Halloween dessert recipes, and other sweets, it throws off the natural homeostasis process. If you are wondering what this is, it is really simple to understand. Homeostasis is simply the equilibrium, or "balance" in the body that is considered to be "ideal".

It basically means that all of components of the body are working in harmony together for proper maintenance. As sugar enters the body, it throws off this natural and required balance in the body. One of the first areas that are affected in a negative fashion is the immune system of the body.

Sugar will actually have a negative impact on the defenses that the immune system sets up in order to fight against potentially threatening diseases and sicknesses. When the immunity of the body is suppressed, many health complications may arise.

Now, when creating those Halloween treats this year, there is a large possibility that children will be consuming them. If you will be using sugar as an ingredient, you may want to consider the effects that it can have on these kids. It has been discovered that adrenaline increases quite rapidly in the body of a child when they consume foods and beverages that contain sugar.

Furthermore, these children have been observed in experiencing high levels of anxiety and even signs of hyperactivity. Many medical professionals and parents who have observed the effects of sugar on children have noticed that many of these kids are not able to concentrate effectively.

Irritability and depression are also common side effects. Before creating a menu of all the Halloween dessert recipes that you will be creating this fall, be sure to consider not using as much sugar and finding another source of sweetener to add other than straight sugar. This is only a small list of the dangers associated with this substance.
